Self-examination is the study of one’s own behaviors and motivations. Regular and intentional self-examination is an important aspect of the healthy Christian life. The spiritual discipline was modeled by King David (e.g., see Psalm 139: 23-24). The Apostle Paul on several occasions also encouraged Christians to examine ourselves (e.g., see 1 Corinthians 11:28; 2 Corinthians 13:5). Through the process of self-examination, the Holy Spirit enables us to honestly review our motives, thinking patterns, beliefs, behaviors, etc. to see whether they line up with the Word of God. In this video, we will explore this powerful discipline a bit further.

To surrender is to give up control. When we surrender to God, we abandon ourselves to his loving control over all things. To surrender to God is to recognize that we belong to him. It is to accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ over our lives. It is to say “Yes!” to him. Surrender is the only path to spiritual victory and fulfillment in life.

In this video, Dr. Wilfred Graves Jr. introduces the spiritual disciplines of solitude and silence. Solitude is the state of being alone. It is being isolated from noise and distractions. The discipline of silence is the voluntary removal of noise from our surroundings. It is often necessary to remove ourselves from noise and people in order to connect with God and receive his instructions. In this video, Dr. Wilfred Graves Jr. introduces the topic of spiritual disciplines. A spiritual discipline is a physical or mental activity that a Christian does to foster his or her spiritual growth. Spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, Scriptural meditation, and public worship allow us to create space in our lives for the Lord so that we can fellowship with him and become more like him.
