Today I would like to focus on 1 Corinthians 13, especially verses 4 through 8a.  This beautiful passage is about the characteristics of true love.  The text uses the Greek word agape, which Christians have come to associate with God's perfect love.  Agape is the kind of love that we see demonstrated on the cross.  It is unselfish and sacrificial and has ultimately led to our salvation.  Agape does not look at the worth of the recipient; rather, it extends itself to others without conditions.  God's perfect love can rescue unworthy individuals from fear, hatred, bitterness, and despair.  When we allow it to take root in our hearts, it will change our lives and transform our relationships!

First Corinthians 13 reveals that love is an action word, rather than a feeling.  Feelings may come and go, but true love lasts.  Love requires us to make a conscious commitment to someone else.  Love is patient, kind, gentle, and humble.  It seeks the best for others and rejoices in their success and well-being.  Love is the greatest of all virtues.  It is an eternal and a permanent gift from God that never ends and never fails.  Love must be the foundation of all relationships (friendships, families, marriages, etc.)  Without it, our lives are incomplete.
