Scripture
"And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit."
—Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV)
Reflection
God does not call us to live the Christian life in our own strength. He gives us His Holy Spirit to dwell within us, guide us, strengthen us, and make us more like Christ. To be filled with the Spirit is to live under His presence and influence in a deepening way. It is to welcome His work in every part of life and to depend on Him for the strength, wisdom, purity, and power we need.
This filling is not something reserved for a few unusually spiritual believers. It is part of the life God desires for all His people. A prayer to be filled with the Spirit asks God to fill us afresh with His presence, to make us more responsive to His leading, and to shape our lives more fully by His power. It is a prayer of desire, surrender, and expectancy.
Prayer
Father, fill us with Your Holy Spirit.
We want more of Your presence in our lives.
We do not want to live in our own strength.
We want to live under the influence, guidance, and power of Your Spirit.
Fill our hearts afresh.
Fill our minds with Your truth.
Fill our lives with Your peace, Your joy, and Your love.
Guide us more clearly in the way we should go.
Strengthen us inwardly so that we can live with courage, purity, and faithfulness.
Make us more sensitive to Your voice and more responsive to Your leading.
Fill us for holy living.
Fill us for worship.
Fill us for obedience.
Fill us for witness.
Let Your Spirit shape the way we think, speak, and live.
Let Your presence rest on us in a deeper way.
Make us people who walk in step with Your Spirit.
Thank You that You delight to give Your Spirit to Your children.
Draw us into a deeper life with You and fill us afresh today.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
