Scripture
“Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.”
—Psalm 119:97 (NKJV)
“Your words were found, and I ate them,
And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;
For I am called by Your name,
O Lord God of hosts.”
—Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)
Reflection
God has given us His Word to nourish our inner lives. Just as food strengthens the body, Scripture strengthens the soul. Through His Word, God feeds us, teaches us, corrects us, and draws us nearer to Himself. We were not meant to live on occasional exposure to the Bible, but on a steady intake of His truth.
A prayer for love for Scripture asks God to help us build strong habits of Bible reading and to give us a real hunger for His Word. It asks Him to make His Word precious to us, to teach us to receive it gladly, and to let it take deeper root in our lives.
Prayer
Father, give us a deep love for Your Word.
Do not let us treat Your Word lightly.
Keep our hearts awake to the beauty, wisdom, and power of what You have spoken.
Teach us to read Your Word with hunger, reverence, and joy.
Help us come to it not only for information, but to meet You there.
Make us eager to hear what You have said.
Teach us to delight in Your truth.
Let Your Word become our greatest treasure.
When we are pulled in many directions, bring us back to Your Word.
When we are dry, refresh us through the Scriptures.
When we are confused, let Your Word bring light.
Write Your truth more deeply on our hearts.
Shape our thinking, our desires, and our choices by what You have spoken.
Teach us to love Your Word and to live by it.
Thank You for speaking to us.
Thank You for giving us truth that is steady, life-giving, and good.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
