Scripture
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
—2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.”
—1 John 3:1 (NKJV)
Reflection
Many people live from identities shaped by failure, shame, fear, comparison, or the opinions of others. But when we come to Christ, we are given a new identity. We are not defined most deeply by our past, our wounds, our struggles, or the labels others place on us. In Christ, we are made new, and we are called children of God.
This identity is not something we achieve. It is something we receive by grace. Because we belong to Jesus, we no longer have to accept labels or embrace stories that do not come from Him. A prayer affirming our new identity in Christ asks God to help us live out of what is already true. It is a prayer to believe what God says about us, to put off false identities, and to walk in the freedom and dignity of belonging to Him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that in You we are made new.
Thank You that our identity is no longer rooted in sin, shame, fear, or the opinions of others.
Thank You that in You we are loved, forgiven, and called Your own.
Help us believe what You say about us.
Keep us from living by false names and old patterns.
Teach us to live from the truth of who we are in You.
When shame speaks, remind us of Your grace.
When fear tries to define us, remind us that we belong to You.
When the past tries to hold us, remind us that You make all things new.
Teach us to walk as sons and daughters of God.
Teach us to live with humility, confidence, and freedom.
Let our thoughts, choices, and relationships reflect the new life You have given us.
Thank You that we are not forgotten or cast aside.
Thank You that in You we are new, loved, and secure.
Help us live each day in the identity You have given us.
In Your name we pray, amen.
