Reflection

Sin does more than leave us guilty. It can also begin to rule us in ways we do not fully see. It can show up in habits we return to, desires we indulge, thoughts we entertain, and attitudes we excuse. Pride, anger, lust, dishonesty, bitterness, selfishness, and other sins can settle into our lives more deeply than we want to admit. Scripture speaks honestly about this struggle, but it also gives real hope.

Jesus Christ came not only to forgive sin, but also to set us free from its power. Romans 6 reminds us that in Christ we are to count ourselves dead to sin and alive to God. Sin is no longer our master. A prayer for freedom from sin brings our struggle into the light and places it before the One who can truly free us. We ask Him to break what has held us, strengthen us where we are weak, and help us live as people who belong to God.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that You came to set us free.

You know the sins that weigh on us and the patterns we keep struggling against.
Nothing in us is hidden from You.

We bring these things before You honestly.
We do not want to excuse them or keep giving them room in our lives.

Break the grip of sin in us.
Teach us to live as those who are no longer under sin’s rule, but alive to God in You.
Do not let sin keep ruling in places where You have called us to freedom.

Give us strength to turn away from what pulls us down.
Give us courage to resist temptation.
Give us a deeper love for what is good and right.

When we fall, lift us up again.
When we grow tired in the struggle, remind us that You have not left us.
When sin starts to feel normal, wake us up and turn our hearts back to You.

Thank You that sin is not our master.
Thank You that in You there is forgiveness, freedom, and a new life to walk in.
Lead us forward in the freedom You give.
