Reflection

God not only fills His people with His Spirit. He also leads them. The Holy Spirit guides us in the way of Christ, helping us walk in wisdom, obedience, and truth. His leading is not usually a matter of constant dramatic impressions. Often, He leads through Scripture, conviction, wisdom, peace, counsel, and the shaping of our desires as we stay close to God.

To be led by the Spirit means that we do not insist on our own way. We learn to listen, to yield, and to follow. This kind of life requires attentiveness and trust. A prayer to be led by the Spirit asks God to make us more responsive to His voice, more willing to obey His direction, and more ready to walk in step with Him in the ordinary decisions of life.

Prayer

Father, lead us by Your Holy Spirit.

We do not want to make our own way without You.
We do not want to be driven by impulse, pressure, or personal desire.
We want to walk in step with Your Spirit.

Make us attentive to Your leading.
Teach us to recognize Your voice as You guide us through Your Word, through wisdom, and through the quiet witness of Your Spirit.

In moments of uncertainty, guide us.
When we start pushing ahead of You, slow us down.
And when You make Your will clear, give us a ready obedience.

Lead us in the choices we make.
Lead us in the words we speak.
Lead us in our relationships.
Lead us in the work You have given us to do.

Keep us from resisting You.
Keep us from grieving You.
Shape in us a heart that is quick to follow where You lead.

Thank You that You do not leave us to find our own way alone.
Thank You that Your Spirit leads the children of God.
Teach us to walk with greater sensitivity, trust, and obedience.
