I proposed to Malaika on March 18, 2016. Here are our descriptions of that special day.
From Malaika:
I knew that a proposal was near because Wil had met with my father and asked for permission to marry me. We had very casually looked around at rings several weeks before, but the day prior to our Disney World trip, Wil had asked for the phone number of a jeweler. Therefore, I was surprised the proposal happened when it did because I didn't think he had a ring yet!
For the actual proposal, Wil had made reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table at Disney World and told me that we would be having dinner while we were at the amusement park and that we should dress nicely for dinner but would change our clothes. I knew then that the dinner would be a special one. Little did I know how special it would be! The evening started with a meet and greet and picture session with Cinderella, after which we were shown to our table which was the best table in the restaurant overlooking the amusement park and facing the restaurant's stage. Throughout the dinner, several of the Disney princesses made their way around the restaurant while we were served a delicious three course meal. When it was time for the desert course, our waiter whispered, "I have some goodies for you!" I was unsure of what he meant by that; however he returned with a covered platter. When he uncovered the platter, there on a bed of rose petals was a lovely glass slipper. Because I saw no ring I still wasn't sure what was happening, but I was admiring the beauty of the little shoe and Wil's thoughtfulness to plan such a lovely evening! I looked into his eyes and he said, "You are my princess and I want to be your Prince Charming forever." By this time the tears started. I turned and there he was from across the table kneeling on one knee at my side with the ring box in his hand. When he said, "My princess will you marry me?" I said yes!
From Wilfred:
I spent weeks researching rings and deciding how I wanted to propose to Malaika. I decided on Disney World because we would be attending a medical conference there. My friend Hans Van Delden and his executive assistant helped me to work out the logistics. I had fun misdirecting Mika during the process. The video of the actual proposal moment is below:
