I would like to challenge today's readers to do a good deed for someone in secret. You may decide to bless the person with a card, or buy him or her lunch, or do some other act of kindness, but do it anonymously. Do it as unto the Lord. This is one way of practicing the spiritual discipline known as secrecy. You are probably familiar with other spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, solitude, and silence. The spiritual discipline of secrecy involves quietly and faithfully doing the work of God without informing others, without shouting from the house tops our good deeds. Jesus taught us not to do our good deeds to win the approval of people (see Matthew 6:1-4). The Master himself often healed people and performed miracles and told the recipients of his grace not to tell others (e.g., Mark 1:40-45). Practicing the spiritual discipline of secrecy is one way of acknowledging that the best approval comes from God, rather than from other people. Have a blessed day!
In Christ,
