In his sermon from Sunday, May 6, 2018, Bishop Charles E. Blake laid a firm foundation for many of the things that Christians believe. He argued for the historicity of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the truth of the Bible, the reality of heaven and hell, and several other basic Christian claims. If you heard the Bishop's message, then you will notice that he appealed to logic and thoughtful reasoning as he made his case for the truth of the gospel. This type of systematic, rational argumentation is known as apologetics. Apologetics is the discipline of defending a position through reason. Christian apologetics, then, is the formal defense of the Christian faith against doctrinal error, misrepresentation and various objections. More positively, it is the science and art of Christian persuasion. It attempts to show that the gospel message is true in what it affirms.
On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, I addressed the topic: "Does God Exist? How Can We Know?" In this presentation, I offered several reasons for belief in God that I have found to be personally compelling through the years. To watch this sermon, please click on the video below.
