Today I am grateful for God's supernatural peace that surpasses human understanding. In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul writes:

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication [petition], with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; ⁷ and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

These verses reveal that prayer can be seen as an exchange of our burdens for God's peace. Biblical peace is a state of calm assurance that God has everything under control and is working for our good amid difficult circumstances. Peace that surpasses human understanding does not result from the absence of trouble, but rather from the presence of God. When we pray earnestly with an attitude of gratitude (see yesterday's post), we can expect to experience the peace that is promised in this verse.

Some of you reading today's devotion are in dire need of supernatural peace. My prayer for you today is that God will give you an overwhelming sense of his divine presence and grant you peace that surpasses all understanding. One way to experience this wonderful blessing is to replace your worry with worship. Philippians 4:6 encourages believers to include thanksgiving with our petitions. We can thank God for what he has done in the past, what he is currently doing in the present, and what he will do in the future. Thanksgiving will certainly prepare our hearts and minds to receive the wonderful peace that God has for us.
