I have found that one of the most effective ways to pray is to use the words of Scripture itself. When I pray the Scriptures, the will of God becomes clearer to me and the promises of God take on new life. Praying the Scriptures renews my mind and conforms my will to the will of God. This is why I encourage you to use Paul’s two prayers in Ephesians, chapters 1 and 3 in your own prayer time. These prayers will change your life if you will meditate on them and use them on a regular basis. Here is a sample prayer that I have written that is based on Ephesians 3:14-21.
Heavenly Father,
I bow before you in reverence and with a sense of urgency. I pray that out of your glorious riches you will strengthen me in my inner being with power through your Spirit. I pray that Christ will dwell in my heart through faith and that I will root and ground my life in love. May I experience the awesome, indescribable love of Christ with ever-increasing capacity so that I may be filled with all the fullness of your life and power. Amen.
