Life Lessons from Ephesians
with Dr. Wilfred Graves Jr.
I would like to invite you on an exciting journey through Paul's Letter to the Ephesians. Ephesians is a great place for believers to learn who we are in Christ and what God expects of us as followers of Christ. One verse sums up the entire letter, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)
The Book of Ephesians consists of two sections. The first section (chapters one through three) is an exposition of what the Church is. This doctrinal section is about the believer's position in Christ. In Christ, we have countless spiritual blessings (or spiritual riches). According to Ephesians 1:3, believers have "every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." Later, in Ephesians 1:18, Paul writes that he wants believers to know "what are the riches of the glory of [God's] inheritance in the saints." The Lord has bestowed upon us wonderful privileges as sons and daughters of God.
The second section of Ephesians (chapters four through six) is an exhortation concerning all that membership in the Church involves. This practical section is about the conduct of believers in the world. Since we have an abundance of spiritual blessings in Christ, God expects us to lead lives that are consistent with the spiritual riches of salvation he has given us. Our salvation has practical implications for our individual moral lives and our relationships within the Church, in the home, and in society.
Ephesians is a powerful letter! It has much to teach us about Christ and his Church. I encourage you to read it humbly and prayerfully, and your life will never be the same again!
Blessings,

Sermon on Ephesians 2:8-10
Ephesians 2:8-10 is a beautiful passage about the wonderful salvation that believers have in Christ. Verse 10 reads: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (NIV, 1984) The word "workmanship" (Greek: poiema) can also be translated "masterpiece" or "work of art." Christians are God's masterpiece because we are a new creation in Christ. God has taken great care in preparing us to reflect his divine character and action. He requires us do the things which bring glory and honor to him and that advance his purposes in the earth. It is a humbling reality that God seeks to reproduce himself in us. Are you ready to become his agent of salvation? Enjoy this inspiring and encouraging word from Dr. Wilfred Graves Jr.
