Reflection
The Holy Spirit does more than give gifts for service. He also produces fruit in the lives of those who belong to Christ. The fruit of the Spirit is the character of Jesus being formed in us—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities are not merely personality traits. They are the Spirit’s work in a life that is yielded to God.
Fruit does not appear overnight, and it cannot be produced by sheer effort alone. It grows as we abide in Christ, walk by the Spirit, and yield ourselves to God’s work in us. A prayer for the fruit of the Spirit asks God to make our lives more like Jesus from the inside out, so that our words, attitudes, relationships, and reactions increasingly reflect His character.
Prayer
Father, let the fruit of the Spirit grow in us.
We do not want to be marked only by activity, ability, or outward appearance.
We want our lives to reflect the character of Jesus Christ.
By Your Holy Spirit, grow in us what we cannot produce on our own.
Grow love where selfishness still lingers.
Grow joy where discouragement tries to settle in.
Grow peace where anxiety and turmoil have taken hold.
Grow patience where we are easily irritated.
Grow kindness and goodness in the way we treat others.
Grow faithfulness so that we remain steady and true.
Grow gentleness where we are rough or reactive.
Grow self-control where our desires and impulses need restraint.
Shape our inner lives so that the fruit of Christ can be seen in the way we live.
Teach us to abide in Jesus.
Teach us to walk by the Spirit.
Teach us to yield to the work You are doing in us day by day.
Thank You that You are not only using us, but also changing us.
Thank You that the Spirit is at work to make us more like Christ.
