Scripture
"Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word,"
—Acts 4:29 (NKJV)
"19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."
—Ephesians 6:19–20 (NKJV)
Reflection
Boldness is not loudness, harshness, or natural self-confidence. It is Spirit-given courage to speak and act faithfully for Christ. We can be bold because the Resurrection is true. Jesus is alive. We can be bold because the Holy Spirit lives within us. And we can be bold because God loves us and gives grace to help in time of need.
We need this boldness because fear can make us shrink back. Fear of rejection, fear of conflict, and fear of standing out can keep us quiet when we should speak and hesitant when we should act. A prayer for boldness asks God to help us bear witness to Jesus with courage, love, humility, and faithfulness.
Prayer
Father, give us boldness.
Thank You that Jesus Christ is risen.
Thank You that Your Holy Spirit lives within us.
Thank You that You love us and give grace to help in time of need.
Do not let fear keep us silent when we should speak.
Do not let insecurity keep us from obeying when You are calling us to act.
Give us courage to bear witness to Jesus Christ.
Give us boldness to speak the truth with love, clarity, and grace.
Strengthen us when fear makes us want to shrink back.
Steady us in the face of rejection.
Remind us that we belong to You when other people’s opinions begin to weigh too much.
Keep our boldness from becoming harsh or proud.
Teach us to be strong without being arrogant, and clear without being unkind.
Open our mouths when we should speak.
Help us stand firm when obedience costs us something.
Let our words and our lives point clearly to Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
