Reflection

Patience is one of the ways God forms maturity in us. We need it when life moves slowly, when people test us, and when things do not unfold as quickly as we hoped. Patience does not mean indifference. It is the grace to remain calm, gentle, and steady without giving way to irritation, harshness, or restless complaint.

We need patience in more places than we often realize. We need it with other people, with the unfinished parts of life, and with the work God is doing in us over time. A prayer for patience asks God to make us slower to anger, gentler in spirit, and more willing to bear with others in love. It is a prayer for grace to remain peaceful, teachable, and steady in the middle of what feels slow, frustrating, or incomplete.

Prayer

Father, teach us patience.

When life feels slow, keep us from frustration and restlessness.
When people test our patience, help us respond with gentleness and self-control.

Make us slower to anger.
Keep us from harsh words, quick reactions, and a spirit that is easily irritated.

Teach us to bear with others in love.
Help us stay calm when we are inconvenienced, interrupted, or tested.
Give us peace when things do not move as quickly as we want them to.

Give us patience with people.
Give us patience in seasons that feel unfinished.
Give us patience in the ordinary pressures of daily life.

When we are tempted to force things, calm us.
When we are tempted to complain, quiet us.
When irritation rises quickly, help us submit it to You.

Let patience have its full work in us.
Make us more gentle, more grounded, and more like Christ.
