Reflection
Obedience is one of the clearest ways our love for God is expressed. It grows out of grace, trust, and a heart that wants to please Him. God does not call us merely to hear His Word, admire it, or agree with it. He calls us to do what He says.
At times, obedience can be costly or difficult. It can ask us to surrender our will, change our direction, or let go of what is familiar. Yet obedience also leads us into what is good, wise, and life-giving. God’s commands are given for our good. A prayer for obedience asks God to make us willing and responsive, to help us follow through on what He says, and to teach us the joy of walking in His ways.
Prayer
Father, teach us to obey You.
Do not let us be content with hearing Your Word while failing to live by it.
Give us hearts that are willing, responsive, and ready to say yes to You.
Where You have spoken clearly, help us not to delay.
Where You are calling us to change, give us courage to respond.
Teach us to trust that Your ways are good and that obedience leads to life.
Keep us from resisting what You are saying.
Keep us from making excuses or turning away.
Help us follow You with joy and with trust.
Let our love for You show itself in the way we live.
Let our faith be seen in our choices, our conduct, and our willingness to follow through.
Make us doers of the Word, and not hearers only.
When obedience is difficult, give us grace.
When the way is clear, help us respond gladly.
Teach us the joy of walking in Your will.
Thank You that Your commands are wise and life-giving.
Keep shaping in us a life that listens to You and follows You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
