Reflection

The Christian life involves more than changed behavior. It also involves a changed way of thinking. Our minds need to be shaped by the truth of God and formed by the character of Christ. Left to ourselves, we can think in proud, fearful, selfish, worldly, and distorted ways. But in Christ, God begins to reshape the way we see, judge, desire, and respond.

Scripture says that we have the mind of Christ, and it also calls us to let the mind of Christ be in us. This is both a gift and a calling. Christ is not only changing what we do. He is also renewing the inner life from which our actions flow. A prayer for the mind of Christ asks God to form in us the humility, wisdom, clarity, and obedience that marked the life of Jesus.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that in You we do not have to keep thinking the same old way.

You know how easily our minds can be shaped by fear, pride, distraction, confusion, and the patterns of this world.
We need You to renew the way we think.

Form in us the mind of Christ.
Teach us to see as You see, value what You value, and love what is pleasing to You.

Where our thinking has become proud, make us humble.
Where it has become anxious, give us peace.
Where it has become clouded, bring light and clarity.

Guard our minds from what pulls us away from You.
Help us turn away from thoughts that are false, bitter, impure, or destructive.
Train us to think in ways that are true, wise, pure, and full of grace.

Let the mind of Christ shape our attitudes, our decisions, and our responses to others.
Teach us to think with humility, live with discernment, and walk in obedience to Your truth.

Thank You that You are still at work in us.
Keep renewing our minds and making us more like You.
